ABOUT MK

In addition to my family and friends, I also love beautiful landscapes, seascapes, skyscapes, music, “A-ha!” moments, flowers, words, baby-soft flannel, stories, chocolate, puzzles, sound of the surf, grace-filled people, Scotland, laughing, God’s Word, silk velvet, the perspective of little children, Scrabble, mysteries, and red licorice—especially as a straw to sip Pepsi.

I was born in Chicago, Illinois and have lived in 12 different states. I worked as a pauper, a pirate, a poet … Wait, that’s Frank Sinatra’s resume.

My life has included jobs as disparate as Park Avenue private secretary, nanny, florist, counselor, pre-school teacher, and assistant dance instructor with senior citizens. You gotta love a retired Marine trying to stretch before dancing. I had to keep reminding him, “John, breathe!”

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I have worked for many years to prevent violence and abuse, and assist in healing various types of trauma. Recently I changed course a bit and now I write, speak, teach and consult on those topics and some new ones—including writing fiction, personal safety issues, parenting, and Dreaming Big with God.

I met Jesus at the intersection of my path and God’s purpose. And I’m very thankful that He works even my poor detours and bumps in the road into a worthwhile and beautiful journey.
